Naive Realism under Pressure

DFG Project 2024-2027

According to naive realism, sensory perception is fundamentally a relation of awareness or acquaintance between the perceiver and the mind-independent world. The international project “Naive Realism under Pressure” investigates three challenges for naive realism: (A) from perceptual response variability; (B) from the specific epistemic significance of perceptual experiences; and (C) from the role of perceptual capacities in experience. It will focus on exploring how naive realism can evolve and adapt in response to the pressure of these challenges.

The project team comprises PIs Eva Schmidt, Assaf Weksler, and Ori Beck and postdocs Giulia Martina, Quentin Coudray, and Daniel Kim. It is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).
